However, make a first visit to the old Castle of Castiglione in its narrow streets and at the top from which you can enjoy a beautiful view of the gulf. This land was reclaimed by Grand Duke Gianluca Leopolo at the beginning of the 1800s, and preserves a timeless historical charm. Maremma cuisine is a true paradise for the palate. The fish is fantastic, cooked according to Italian tradition, with simplicity, without particular sauces, but only with very fine Tuscan oil and a few other ingredients. But in Maremma, wild boar also plays a leading role, accompanied by delicious tortelli, pappardelle and other artisanal pasta specialties. Whether you choose meat or fish, you can't go wrong. The area also produces native wines such as Ansonica (or Inzolia): An ancient vine, excellent in Ansonica Costa dell'Argentario DOC, with a savory and structured taste to try with fish. If you want to taste wild boar, take a trip to Tirli (15 min by car), there are typical restaurants. Castiglione has good restaurants, perhaps some a bit touristy but valid and interesting, both in the center and at the castle, you will also find trattorias towards Punta Ala Pian d'alma and a particular place for pizza in Pian di Rocca with its tiny and unique closed circular square.

The day trips are a bit touristy, and the alternative is to rent a sailboat with a skipper for a fuller experience of the sea and the islands of the archipelago.
